Tutto questo, come prevedibile, non piace alla Lega. Secondo Calderoli «anticipare la cittadinanza, e quindi il diritto di voto agli immigrati è un attentato alla democrazia ed un esproprio della volontà popolare». 
NO DELLA LEGA - Secca la replica della Lega alla proposta di Fini. «Portare avanti il modello di cittadinanza facile è sbagliato perché vorrebbe dire attirare sul nostro territorio milioni di immigrati che noi non possiamo accogliere. La Lega sente il dovere di rispettare gli impegni presi con la gente che non vuole questo risultato» dichiara in una nota il presidente dei deputati Roberto Cota.
Ad una dichiarazione di Berlusconi che sostiene che "La sinistra vuole il diritto agli immigrati per poi contare sul loro voto per governare l'Italia, La Russa si meraviglia " Ma chi l' ha detto che gli immigrati voterebbero solo la sinistra? E' anche chiaro che chi maltratta un elettore non può aspettarsi al suo voto."
E' curioso però vedere che un tema così caro alla sinistra e particolarmente al PD, come quello dei diritti degli immigrati diventa un cavallo di battaglia di un Leader di destra, anche se a dire vero, il partito di Franceschini ha sempre difeso con molta riserva le questioni riguardante gli immigrati e là ha ragione La Russa: Ma chi l' ha detto che gli immigrati voterebbero solo la sinistra?
